Black Sand Pizzeria and Bistro sits proudly on Oakura Beach and enjoys sweeping coastal views. The Restaurant seats 40 people inside and 24 on the deck, with an extra room available for private events or large tables.
We (Martin and Monika) have loved wood-fired pizza since the late 90’s when we learned traditional pizza making. Our first pizzeria in New Zealand, Pekaren, opened in 2014. Pekaren became one of the top-rated restaurants in the region. Black Sand Pizzeria and Bistro, Oakura opening in 2016 soon won a National Innovation Award, the first awarded to a restaurant in New Zealand.
We are the only pizzeria in the region specializing in true wood-fired Naples style pizza, and the menu at Black Sands utilizes high-quality ingredients; the food is bursting with fresh local flavors. All our key ingredients are imported from Italy including San Marzano Tomato, Fior de latte, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Parmigiano Reggiano. Black Sand is very proud to bring classic Italian crafted pizza to New Zealand in a family-friendly environment. To us, seeing families with young and old sharing our food is what we work so hard for.
